Policy Imperatives and Triumphs As Kogi State's Confluence University of Science and Technology at Osara Expands Academic Offerings with Full Accreditation of Six New Courses
Kogi State’s Confluence University of Science and Technology at Osara (CUSTECH) has further expanded its academic offerings this week with the full accreditation of six additional courses by the relevant regulatory bodies. This marks another significant milestone for the state’s premier STEM institution.
The National Universities Commission (NUC) and the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), both of which are responsible for maintaining the rigorous standards required for the accreditation of key academic disciplines, granted full approval for CUSTECH to commence six new programmes, all of them key professionals courses. These include Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBBS), Doctor of Physiotherapy (DPT), Bachelor of Radiography (B.Rad), and Bachelor of Agriculture (B.Agric). Others are Bachelor of Engineering in Agricultural Engineering (B.Eng), and somewhat surprisingly but greatly appreciated, Bachelor of Laws (LL.B).
These newly accredited programmes further solidify CUSTECH’s ambition to become a leading destination for tertiary education in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), positioning it among Nigeria’s elite universities offering world-class education tailored for the information age. The institution is now set to transform even more lives, particularly those of students from Kogi State, who have often struggled to gain admission into these highly competitive courses at universities in other States.
Kogi State, long recognized as a flagship in northern Nigeria for education, boasts an impressive 83% literacy rate—a remarkable achievement in a region where some states perennially rank among the lowest percentile in the country. This success can be traced to a deep-rooted tradition of valuing education by the people of Kogi State, often against great odds.
Kogipedia notes that CUSTECH is one of the signature achievements of the former administration of His Excellency, Governor Yahaya Bello who founded it about 4 years ago. His administration also founded the brand-new Kogi State University in Kabba about two years ago, gifting the confluence state with the legacy, among many others, of the two schools to beef up the impact of Prince Abubakar Audu University, Anyigba and other tertiary institutions in the State.
In light of these developments, Kogipedia confidently endorses the exemplary consolidation of governance under the present leadership of Governor Usman Ahmed Ododo, who was himself an integral leader in the past administration. Governor Ododo continues to energetically implement the state’s 32-year Transformation Plan alongside his own manifesto in all sectors, in this case via the untiring efforts of Hon. Wemi Jones, the Kogi State Commissioner of Education.
The events at CUSTECH highlights Kogi State’s strategic and continuing investment in education to bridge both state and national educational gaps while pursuing a knowledge-driven economy that empowers future leaders. As CUSTECH continues to grow, it will join other schools in the state to cement Kogi State’s reputation as a hub of intellectual and innovative excellence.
From a policy, research and strategy perspective, Kogipedia notes that the recent accreditation also opens doors to opportunities for Kogi State and Nigeria. In the short term this development will attract more student to the institution improving the local economy and the University’s own internally generated revenue. Longer term projections show that with enhanced access to quality and transformative education, students will acquire cutting-edge skills that drive innovation and fuel economic growth, in Kogi State and beyond. This means that by addressing critical skill gaps in key sectors, CUSTECH is poised to contribute significantly to reduction of unemployment and renewal of Nigeria’s human capital indices.
We extend a warm invitation to investors, partners, and scholars to engage with this new citadel of exceptional academic standards. The student population is set to explode with concurrent demand for secure accommodation and other commercial services. This development has also yielded another opportunity for CUSTECH to incorporate global educational standards and expand her research and development options by leveraging currently dormant synergies between government, academia, and industry.
In line with its Research and Development objectives, the Special and Actionable Research Team A (SPARTA), led by the Director General of Research and Development in Kogi State, Barr. Moses Okezie-Okafor, will continue to track progress, conduct in-depth research, and generating actionable outcomes aligned with the imperatives of the Ododo administration and the Educational Transformation Agenda of the President Tinubu-led Renewed Hope Administration.
Indeed, Kogi is making remarkable progress!
