Strengthening Traditional Institutions for Security and Development: Governor Ododo's Strategic Vision

Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, has emphasized the crucial role of traditional institutions in fostering security, national cohesion, and economic prosperity. During the presentation of the First-Class Staff of Office to the Akinrin of Ekinrin-Ade Land, His Royal Highness, Oba Johnson Kolade Otitoju, at the Government House in Lokoja on Friday, Governor Ododo stressed the need for enhanced collaboration with traditional institutions to accelerate development and promote peaceful coexistence.

The Governor charged the Oba to uphold his duties as a primary mediator in conflict resolution, utilizing established cultural norms and practices to prevent the escalation of violence and sue for peace at all times. This approach, according to the Governor, fortifies Kogi State’s security architecture, ensuring peace is maintained at the grassroots level. He further stated that traditional institutions are vital in promoting national cohesion and preserving cultural heritage.

Governor Ododo’s consistent recognition of the traditional system as a partner in governance underscores the importance of inclusive governance and cultural diplomacy in nation-building. His call for improved collaboration with traditional institutions reaffirms this commitment to consolidating on existing template for a more secure, prosperous, and united Kogi State.

The ceremony reaffirms the state’s dedication to strengthening traditional governance structures, recognizing the critical role traditional rulers play in security, economic development, state and national cohesion.
